This past
weekend we attended the Gen2 Conference in Kentucky. The purpose of this conference was to present the results of
an extensive survey by Dr. Brian Ray from NHERI to track the outcomes
of homeschooled students in comparison to students who had been educated in
another manner. However, this is
not the topic for today’s blog. The conference was held at the Answers in Genesis, Creation Museum, in Kentucky.
This is the topic for our thoughts today.
We have
heard about this museum for a number of years but never made it down to see it first hand. This turned out to be an amazing experience and one we would highly recommend for you and your family. It is a phenomenal way to help the creation account come to life for you and your children. Displays were top notch. As someone with a science background it was encouraging to see such a high degree of excellence from both a content and display perspective.
One of our favourite displays was Dr. Crawley's Insectorium where the great diversity of the insect world was demonstrated through a vast display of insect families all neatly arranged. This was topped off by a display with an animatronic scientist, Dr. Arthur Pod, who would answer questions about some of the insects and their habits.
After tramping around and seeing dinosaur displays, Bible displays, and much more, a visit to the museum's very own planetarium showed the wonders of the universe. Here we were introduced to the unique characteristics of each of the planets in our solar system.
While our visit was definitely off season, there would be so much more to see in the summer. Beautiful gardens, a petting zoo, complete with a zorse and a zonkey. Zip lines for the more adventurous, mean that there is something for absolutely everyone in the family.
In a world obsessed with evolution and millions and billions of years for the development of the world it is a blessing to know that a resource such as this exists. The 7 C's of God's plan come to life as you experience the museum. From Creation to Christ to Consumation, everyone can see God's plan for the world unfolding as they move through the displays. Many families are using either Apologia's, Exploring Creation Series or Answer in Genesis' God's Design Series for science study. The Creation Museum is the ultimate science field trip to support these studies. Why not put this one on your homeschool bucket list?
If you have been to the museum I would love to know what your favourite exhibit was?
